A U.S. media report has claimed that Delcy Rodríguez, the vice president of Venezuela and a close ally of President Nicolás Maduro, may currently be in Russia, as uncertainty continues to surround Maduro’s whereabouts and status.
The report, published Friday by Fox News, cited unnamed sources and described Rodríguez as Maduro’s “presumed successor.” The outlet did not provide documentary evidence or official confirmation from Venezuelan or Russian authorities.
The report follows heightened political tension after Rodríguez publicly demanded that the United States provide what she described as “proof of life” for President Maduro, amid circulating claims in U.S. political and media circles suggesting he may be detained, incapacitated, or otherwise removed from public view.
As of publication, the Venezuelan government has not issued an official statement confirming Rodríguez’s location or addressing the succession claims. Russian authorities have also made no public comment. No confirmation has been provided by international or multilateral organizations, including the United Nations, the Organization of American States, or the European Union.
Political analysts caution that the use of terms such as “possibly” and “presumed successor” reflect unresolved and unverified elements of the situation. Under Venezuela’s constitution, presidential succession follows defined legal procedures, none of which have been formally announced or activated.
The developments come amid growing global concern over the erosion of diplomatic norms and the increasing role of media-driven narratives in international crises. Several governments in Latin America, Africa, and the Caribbean are closely monitoring the situation, viewing it as a potential precedent for how political power transitions may unfold outside established multilateral frameworks.
For now, the claims surrounding Rodríguez’s location and Maduro’s status remain unverified. Observers emphasize that further clarity will depend on official statements from Caracas, Moscow, Washington, or confirmation from international bodies.
Haitian Prime News will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as verified information becomes available.
