Haiti’s newly appointed Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States (OAS), Jean Josué Pierre, formally presented his credentials on Tuesday, officially beginning his diplomatic mandate before the hemispheric organization.

The ceremony, held at OAS headquarters in Washington, D.C., marks the formal recognition of Ambassador Pierre as Haiti’s representative to the regional body. During his remarks, Pierre reaffirmed Haiti’s adherence to the core principles upon which the OAS is founded, including democracy, human rights, integral development, and multidimensional security.

“I reaffirm our commitment to the values on which this regional organization is based,” Pierre stated, underscoring Haiti’s continued participation in the inter-American system.

The presentation of credentials is a standard diplomatic procedure that authorizes an ambassador to represent their government in official deliberations and engagements within the organization. As Permanent Representative, Pierre will participate in discussions related to governance, security cooperation, development initiatives, and regional stability.

The Organization of American States serves as a central political forum for countries across the Western Hemisphere, addressing a wide range of issues affecting member states. Haiti’s engagement with the OAS comes at a time of significant political, security, and humanitarian challenges, with international diplomacy remaining a key component of the country’s external relations.
