Pamela Bondi criticizes state and local officials over sanctuary policies as federal authorities investigate a shooting involving law enforcement in Minnesota.

U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi on Friday publicly criticized Minnesota’s state and local leadership following a reported shooting involving federal law enforcement officers in the state, asserting that local sanctuary policies contributed to the conditions surrounding the incident.
In a statement posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, Bondi praised federal agents for what she described as “heroic work” and said their presence in Minnesota was necessitated by policies enacted by Governor Tim Walz, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey.
Bondi argued that sanctuary-style policies limit cooperation between local jurisdictions and federal authorities, placing additional strain on federal law enforcement operations. She further warned that political rhetoric and policy decisions could increase risks faced by officers carrying out federal duties.
“Now Minnesota’s ‘leaders’ are creating the conditions for violence against law enforcement,” Bondi stated, adding that federal agencies would continue enforcement efforts regardless of local opposition.
The Attorney General also emphasized the administration’s broader stance on federal law enforcement, saying President Donald Trump remains committed to enforcing federal law and protecting public safety in Minnesota.
Bondi’s remarks coincided with her appearance on Fox News, where the network displayed a breaking news banner referencing a shooting involving U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel. At the time of publication, federal authorities had not released full details regarding the incident, including the number of individuals involved, potential injuries, or whether any arrests had been made.
Minnesota officials named in Bondi’s statement had not issued public responses as of Friday evening. State and local agencies have also not confirmed whether the incident is directly linked to immigration enforcement operations.
Federal investigators are expected to release additional information as the inquiry continues.
