The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has voiced serious concern over ongoing internal turmoil at the highest levels of Haiti’s executive leadership, warning that political infighting at this critical juncture threatens national stability and worsens the suffering of the Haitian people.
In a statement issued on January 27, CARICOM stressed that Haiti urgently requires stability, level-headed decision-making, and a clear prioritization of the population’s well-being as the country navigates a fragile governance transition.
CARICOM recalled that, under the founding decree of the Transitional Presidential Council (TPC) and the April 3, 2024 Political Accord, the Council’s mandate is scheduled to end on February 7, 2026. With that deadline approaching, the regional body warned that recent internal disputes within the TPC have complicated an already fragile transition process.
The statement highlighted the current impasse following unsuccessful efforts by some Council members to dismiss the Prime Minister, describing the situation as deeply concerning. CARICOM noted that these political struggles are unfolding while Haitians continue to endure extreme violence, insecurity, and humanitarian deprivation.
Describing the situation as unacceptable, CARICOM called on all stakeholders to set aside differences and work toward consensus. The organization reaffirmed that its Eminent Persons Group remains available to facilitate dialogue and assist in bridging divisions among the multiple political proposals currently under consideration.
CARICOM further warned that continued fragmentation within Haiti’s leadership benefits criminal gangs and undermines efforts to restore security. The regional bloc emphasized the urgent need for political stability, security, and peace so that elections can be held and national focus can shift toward economic growth and sustainable development.
In closing, CARICOM appealed to all Haitian stakeholders to act responsibly, urgently, and patriotically, placing the future of the Haitian people and the nation above all other interests.
