President Donald J. Trump met with Colombian President Gustavo Petro at the White House on Tuesday, marking a significant diplomatic engagement between the United States and Colombia.
The meeting, confirmed by an official White House social media post, took place in Washington, D.C., and included senior officials and advisors from both governments. Images released by the White House show the two leaders in direct conversation, as well as seated discussions with their respective delegations.
While the White House has not yet released a detailed readout of the talks, such meetings traditionally focus on U.S.–Colombia relations, including regional security cooperation, counter-narcotics efforts, migration, trade, and economic development. Colombia remains one of the United States’ key strategic partners in Latin America.
President Petro, Colombia’s first leftist leader, has previously emphasized reforms related to peace implementation, social inequality, and drug policy, areas that may have featured in the discussions. President Trump’s engagement with Petro signals continued diplomatic dialogue despite ideological differences between the two administrations.
Further details are expected following official briefings from the White House and Colombia’s presidential office.
