PROVIDENCE, R.I. (December 13, 2024) — An active shooter incident at Brown University this afternoon has left multiple victims hospitalized and a suspect at large, university officials confirmed.
The shooting occurred near the Barus & Holley Engineering building around 4:22 p.m. EST. Brown University immediately issued a shelter-in-place order, instructing students and staff to lock doors, silence phones, and remain hidden.
According to Brown’s emergency information website, multiple shooting victims have been transported to local hospitals, though their conditions have not been disclosed. Support services are on-site at a secure location for relocated students.
As of 6:10 p.m., law enforcement confirmed that a reported secondary shooting near Governor Street was unfounded. However, the primary situation remains active and dangerous.
