André Michel reacted publicly to developments surrounding the reported arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro by drawing comparisons to the concentration of power under Haiti’s late President Jovenel Moïse. In his remarks, Michel stated that for an extended period, Moïse was the dominant political authority in Haiti, exercising power with limited institutional restraint.
Michel, a longtime political opponent of the former administration, emphasized that despite years of political confrontation, his name has never appeared in any judicial files, investigative reports, or official proceedings related to the assassination of President Moïse. He stated that no evidence has ever linked him to the killing, pushing back against narratives that broadly implicate political opponents.
In addition, Michel questioned the absence of several individuals who once openly supported President Moïse. He noted that many former allies of the late president are now either living in exile or have retreated from public life. Michel raised the question of whether those who once defended the former administration are now avoiding scrutiny or accountability in the aftermath of the assassination.
His comments come as investigations into the killing of President Moïse remain unresolved, while political debate continues both domestically and internationally. The situation has fueled ongoing discussions about responsibility, transparency, and the role of former political actors in Haiti’s current crisis.
