Leslie Voltaire and Edgard Leblanc Fils, presidential advisers to Haiti’s Transitional Presidential Council (CPT), confirmed on Friday that a majority of CPT members have decided to seek the departure of Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé. The announcement was made during a press conference held at the Villa d’Accueil in Port-au-Prince.

According to the advisers, the CPT does not intend to reverse its decision, despite what they described as direct warnings from the international community and reported threats from the United States Department of State. They emphasized that the decision was taken by a qualified majority within the council as part of ongoing efforts to address Haiti’s deepening political and security crisis.

As part of the transition, an interim Prime Minister has been appointed for a 30-day period to manage current affairs while negotiations continue for the selection of a new Prime Minister and President. The advisers did not disclose the identity of the interim Prime Minister at the time of the announcement.

Voltaire and Leblanc Fils stated that if no political agreement is reached by February 6, 2026, the CPT will put forward an alternative proposal. They further indicated that the official decree naming the interim Prime Minister will be transmitted to the National Press for publication on Friday.

The advisers also reiterated that the mandate of the Transitional Presidential Council is expected to conclude on February 7, 2026, underscoring the urgency of reaching a political consensus before that date.

The decision marks a significant escalation in Haiti’s ongoing political transition, coming at a time when the country continues to face widespread gang violence, institutional paralysis, and mounting pressure from both domestic actors and international partners.
