Denmark has summoned the U.S. ambassador after President Donald Trump appointed a special envoy to Greenland without prior coordination with Copenhagen, Danish officials confirmed.

The move has raised diplomatic concerns over sovereignty, as Greenland remains an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark. Officials said the meeting was requested to clarify Denmark’s position and reaffirm that foreign policy matters involving Greenland must be handled through Danish authorities.

U.S. officials have not publicly responded.
