The Dominican Republic has announced a major development in its national defense capabilities with the official presentation of the country’s first domestically assembled armored vehicle, the FURIA VBD-1.

President Luis Abinader, accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Defense and senior military leadership, unveiled the vehicle during a formal presentation highlighting the government’s efforts to strengthen national security and defense readiness. The armored vehicle was developed by the Dominican Military Industry and assembled entirely within the country.

According to the presidency, the FURIA VBD-1 marks an important step toward greater defense self-sufficiency. Government officials emphasized that local production and assembly reduce dependence on foreign suppliers, lower long-term costs for the state, and enhance the country’s capacity to maintain and upgrade its own defense equipment.

The administration also framed the project as part of a broader strategy to invest in national technological and industrial development. By expanding domestic military manufacturing, authorities say the country is reinforcing its sovereignty while creating specialized technical expertise within its armed forces and industrial sector.

Images released by the presidency show government and military officials inspecting the vehicle’s exterior, interior configuration, and operational features during the presentation. While detailed technical specifications were not disclosed, officials described the FURIA VBD-1 as a multipurpose armored platform designed to support security, defense, and operational missions.

The unveiling comes as the Dominican government continues to prioritize modernization of its security infrastructure amid evolving regional and domestic security challenges. Officials described the project as a symbol of national capability, emphasizing the slogan “Made in the Dominican Republic” to underscore its domestic origin and strategic significance.
