The Government of Ecuador has issued a formal diplomatic protest following an attempted entry by a U.S. immigration enforcement agent into the Ecuadorian Consulate in Minneapolis, according to an official bulletin released by Ecuador’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility.

The incident occurred on the morning of January 27 at approximately 11:00 a.m., when an agent from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement reportedly attempted to enter the consular premises. Ecuadorian consular staff immediately denied access, preventing the agent from entering the facility.

In its statement, Ecuador’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility said emergency protocols were promptly activated to ensure the safety and protection of Ecuadorian nationals present inside the consulate at the time of the incident.

Following the attempted entry, Ecuador’s Minister of Foreign Affairs submitted an official note of protest to the Embassy of the United States in Ecuador, requesting assurances that similar actions will not be repeated at any Ecuadorian consular offices within the United States.

The Ecuadorian government did not report any arrests, detentions, or injuries related to the incident. Officials also did not indicate whether the ICE agent was seeking a specific individual.

Authorities stated that additional information will be released as it becomes available through diplomatic channels.
