Ankara — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Friday he plans to hold a phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump to discuss developments in the war in Ukraine and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Speaking to reporters, Erdogan said the call is expected to take place early next week and will focus on possible diplomatic steps to reduce tensions and advance stability in both conflict zones. He emphasized Turkey’s ongoing efforts to support dialogue and de-escalation, particularly in Ukraine, where Ankara has maintained communication channels with both Kyiv and Moscow.
On Gaza, Erdogan reiterated his criticism of Israel’s military campaign and restrictions on humanitarian aid, calling for greater international pressure to ensure civilian protection and uninterrupted assistance to the territory’s population.
Turkey has positioned itself as a regional power seeking a mediating role in major international crises, leveraging its strategic ties with Western allies while maintaining relations with Russia and actors in the Middle East. The planned call underscores Ankara’s intent to remain directly engaged with Washington on key geopolitical and humanitarian issues as global conflicts continue to intensify.
