Former Haitian senator Francisco De La Cruz was arrested Monday in the Dominican Republic and subsequently handed over to the Haitian National Police (PNH) at the northern border, according to information confirmed by local media sources.
De La Cruz, who previously represented Haiti’s Central Plateau department in the Senate, was apprehended by Dominican authorities before being formally transferred to Haitian law enforcement officials. The handover reportedly took place in the northern border region, where the former lawmaker was placed under the authority of the PNH.
Judicial sources indicate that De La Cruz is expected to appear before the competent courts in northern Haiti, where the legal process will determine the next steps in the case. Authorities have not yet publicly disclosed the specific charges or legal grounds associated with the arrest.
It should be noted that Francisco De La Cruz had previously been cited in a 2024 investigation conducted by Haiti’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ULCC) related to materials linked to the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP). That investigation did not result in formal charges at the time.
As of this reporting, no additional details have been released by Haitian or Dominican authorities. The case remains under judicial review, and further developments are expected as proceedings move forward.
