Grenada Temporarily Shuts Down Electoral System After Software Glitch

Parliamentary Elections Office says voter registration system will remain offline temporarily as technicians work to restore full functionality.

The Government of Grenada has announced a temporary shutdown of its electoral system following a software malfunction affecting voter registration services, according to an official memorandum issued by the Parliamentary Elections Office.

The notice, dated January 7, 2026, was released by the Acting Supervisor of Elections and addressed to the Government Information Service. The memorandum confirms that a glitch in the software used for voter registration led to the suspension of the entire electoral system.

In its statement, the Parliamentary Elections Office informed the public of the disruption and issued an apology for the inconvenience caused. Officials indicated that technical teams are actively working to resolve the issue and that the system is expected to be fully operational on or before the end of the week.

The office did not report any breach or compromise of voter data and described the shutdown as a temporary and precautionary measure necessary to correct the software problem.

The Parliamentary Elections Office reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and continued public service, stating that it looks forward to resuming normal operations once the system is restored.
