The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirms Haiti’s official nomination ahead of February and April 2026 decision sessions.

The Ministère des Affaires étrangères et des Cultes (MAEC) has formally announced that the Haitian government has submitted the candidacy of Johanny Stanley Joseph for the position of Director General of the Organisation Mondiale de la Propriété Intellectuelle (OMPI/WIPO).
According to the official notice dated February 9, 2026, Mr. Joseph’s candidacy will be reviewed by WIPO’s Coordination Committee during an extraordinary session scheduled for February 12 and 13, 2026. The final appointment is expected to be made by the Organization’s General Assembly during its extraordinary session planned for April 21, 2026.
The MAEC describes Mr. Joseph as a Haitian jurist holding a Doctorate in Private Law, with a specialization in intellectual property. The notice highlights his extensive technical expertise and professional experience, developed over several years, including service within Haiti’s public administration.
In presenting this candidacy, the Haitian government reiterated its belief in the transformative role of intellectual property as a key driver of sustainable development. Authorities also emphasized their intention to contribute meaningfully to the global governance of intellectual property through active participation at the international level.
The announcement was issued in Port-au-Prince and bears the official seal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship.
