IRVINE, California — Omar Miller, also known as “Milla 9,” a former Jamaican police officer and dancehall music producer, has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for his role in a deadly home-invasion robbery in Southern California.
Miller and co-defendant Andre Andrews were convicted of first-degree murder and related felony charges stemming from a 2019 break-in at a residence in Irvine, where 20-year-old Raymond Alcala was fatally shot. Prosecutors said the defendants entered the home intending to commit robbery, during which Alcala was killed.
According to court records, surveillance footage, DNA evidence, and ballistic analysis linked both men to the crime. Prosecutors established that Miller fired the fatal shots, leading the court to impose a life sentence under California’s felony murder rule. Andrews received the same sentence.
A third individual connected to the case faced separate legal proceedings, with authorities alleging he played a role in organizing the crime.
Before his arrest, Miller had served as a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force and later became involved in the music industry, where he worked as a producer under the name “Milla 9.” His conviction and sentencing bring a close to a case that drew attention both in the United States and the Caribbean due to his background in law enforcement and entertainment.
The sentencing was handed down following a lengthy trial in Orange County Superior Court, concluding one of the region’s most closely watched home-invasion murder cases in recent years.
