The Nigerian army announced Saturday that it has killed a senior commander of Boko Haram along with ten militants during a nighttime raid in the Kodunga area of Borno State.

According to a military statement, the commander—identified as Abu Khalid—was responsible for coordinating operations and logistics for Boko Haram in the Sambisa axis. The raid was carried out late Saturday night as part of a broader offensive launched last month.

Military officials said the army has shifted from a largely reactive posture to proactively targeting insurgent hideouts. Security researcher Taiwo Adebayo said the renewed offensive has been supported by intelligence assistance from the United States.

During the operation, soldiers recovered weapons, food supplies, and medical items. The army reported no casualties among its own troops. Clearance operations are continuing across the Sambisa Forest and the Mandara Mountains.

The announcement follows deadly attacks earlier in the week, including assaults on a construction site and a military base in the region, highlighting ongoing security threats in northeastern Nigeria.

Nigeria remains engulfed in a wider security crisis marked by insurgency and rising kidnappings. The long-running conflict has killed an estimated 35,000 civilians and displaced more than two million people across the Lake Chad basin, according to humanitarian agencies.
