Port-au-Prince, Haiti — The Mayor of Port-au-Prince, Ralph Youri Chevry, has filed a formal lawsuit in a Haitian criminal court following what he describes as an illegal, warrantless search of his private residence by security forces.
According to statements cited by CNW network and Haitian prime news reporter, the operation took place in the early hours of the morning and reportedly lasted nearly three hours. Mayor Chevry alleges that the search was conducted without a judicial warrant or prior notification, in violation of Haiti’s criminal procedure laws. He further stated that the operation began with gunfire and resulted in the death of his security dog.
Chevry claims that members of his personal security team were temporarily detained during the operation and later released without charges. He also reported that authorities seized several items from his residence, including firearms, ammunition, a communications radio, and a surveillance drone.
In his legal filing, the mayor argues that Haitian law requires searches of private residences to be authorized by a judge and carried out in the presence of witnesses. He framed the lawsuit as a defense of constitutional rights and the rule of law, stating that no official explanation or documentation was provided to justify the search.
As of publication, Haitian authorities have not issued a public response or clarification regarding the operation. The case adds to ongoing concerns about due process, governance, and security practices in Port-au-Prince, amid the country’s broader political and institutional instability.
