U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke Friday with Colombian Foreign Minister Rosa Yolanda Villavicencio to review key areas of cooperation between the United States and Colombia, according to a statement released by the U.S. Department of State.
The discussion focused on strengthening commercial ties, enhancing regional security cooperation, and advancing joint counternarcotics initiatives. Both officials reaffirmed their commitment to sustained bilateral collaboration amid ongoing regional economic and security challenges.
The call took place ahead of an upcoming bilateral meeting scheduled for February between U.S. President Donald Trump and Colombian President Gustavo Petro. That meeting is expected to further advance discussions on matters of mutual importance, including trade relations, regional stability, and coordinated efforts to combat transnational crime.
The readout was attributed to Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott and issued by the State Department’s Office of the Spokesperson.
