The United States has secured international pledges totaling up to 7,500 security personnel to support Haiti’s multinational security mission, according to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Speaking on Friday, Rubio confirmed that multiple countries have committed personnel and resources to reinforce the international effort aimed at confronting escalating gang violence in Haiti, particularly in and around Port-au-Prince. The pledged force exceeds the original target of 5,500 personnel and reflects growing international concern over Haiti’s deteriorating security conditions.

The expanded deployment follows a decision by the United Nations Security Council to significantly increase the size and mandate of the existing multinational mission, now rebranded as a gang suppression force. Armed groups currently control large sections of the Haitian capital, disrupting humanitarian access, displacing thousands of civilians, and paralyzing state institutions.

U.S. officials emphasized that the operation is designed to support Haitian authorities rather than replace them. Washington has repeatedly stated that it does not intend to deploy U.S. combat troops, instead coordinating logistics, funding, and diplomatic engagement to mobilize partner nations.

Haiti has faced prolonged instability marked by political paralysis, institutional collapse, and the near-total erosion of public security. International agencies have warned that unchecked gang control has intensified human rights abuses and deepened the country’s humanitarian crisis.

No official timeline has yet been announced for the full deployment of the pledged personnel.
